The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) has marked 10 years of advancing health education during a ceremony held in Burera District. The event celebrated the institution’s contribution to strengthening education and healthcare in Rwanda and beyond over the past decade.

Diverse Stakeholders Gather to Celebrate
The anniversary brought together government officials, development partners, UGHE leadership, academic staff, students, and international guests. Participants reflected on the university’s journey, achievements, and its growing influence in addressing global health challenges.
Mission to Strengthen Global Health Education
UGHE began its operations in Rwanda in 2019 at its Butaro campus, with a mission to provide high-quality education in global health. The institution focuses on increasing the number of skilled professionals equipped to tackle complex health issues and improve health systems worldwide.

Graduating Leaders in Health and Medicine
Over the past decade, UGHE has delivered quality education to students from across Africa and other regions. To date, 78 students have completed postgraduate studies and been awarded master’s degrees. Among them are 30 medical doctors who undertook specialized programs designed to enhance clinical leadership and health systems management.
Research, Community Development, and Future Commitment
Beyond academic training, UGHE has invested in research, healthcare innovation, and partnerships that promote sustainable health solutions. The university has also contributed to local development in the Butaro area through job creation, community engagement, and skills development initiatives. The 10th anniversary served as a moment to review progress, assess ongoing initiatives, and reaffirm UGHE’s commitment to advancing equitable, high-quality health education that transforms lives in Rwanda and around the world.
