The Ministry of Education has launched a new project to distribute computers to primary schools across Rwanda. The initiative also includes capacity-building activities in different subjects. Overall, the project seeks to improve learning quality and promote the use of technology in classrooms.
Official Launch Held in Bugesera
The official launch took place on January 19, 2026, at GS Kamabuye Primary School in Mayange Sector, Bugesera District. The event marked another step in Rwanda’s efforts to expand technology-based education, especially in rural areas.
Education Leaders and Partners Support Initiative
The Minister of Education, Joseph Nsengimana, officially inaugurated the project. He was joined by the Governor of Eastern Province, Prudence Rubingisa, Bugesera District Mayor Richard Mutabazi, and representatives from Rising Academy, the project’s main partner.
Together, they highlighted the importance of partnerships in improving education outcomes.
Early Exposure to Technology Boosts Skills
During the event, Minister Nsengimana said the project supports the government’s goal of modern and inclusive education. He explained that early exposure to computers helps children gain essential digital skills.
Moreover, he noted that computers will support learning in several subjects. Learners will use digital exercises, images, and interactive tools to better understand lessons. As a result, pupils in rural schools will access the same learning opportunities as those in urban areas.
Stakeholders Praise Impact on Learners
Meanwhile, Governor Prudence Rubingisa welcomed the initiative, saying it will improve learners’ confidence and performance. He added that subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Languages will especially benefit.
In addition, Rising Academy representatives reaffirmed their commitment to Rwanda’s education sector. They said the organization will continue providing equipment, teacher training, and follow-up support. Teachers and pupils at GS Kamabuye also expressed excitement, noting that the computers will make learning easier, more engaging, and more effective.
