This initiative forms part of national programs aimed at addressing inadequate and unsafe housing conditions, particularly for residents living in areas with limited access to basic social services such as clean water, electricity, schools, and health facilities.
The houses under construction in Nkanga Cell are designed to meet modern living standards and will be equipped with essential infrastructure, including clean water, electricity, and accessible roads, to support residents’ daily activities and overall wellbeing.
According to project implementers, construction has so far reached 40 percent, with work progressing at a satisfactory pace. The houses are expected to be completed by April 2026, after which all 96 families will be officially resettled.
The Bugesera District administration stated that the project goes beyond providing shelter, aiming instead to establish a sustainable foundation for long-term community development. The initiative seeks to promote improved living conditions, enhanced safety, and renewed hope for the future among beneficiary families.
District authorities further noted that the relocation will significantly reduce disaster-related risks, protect residents’ lives, and enable families to begin a new chapter grounded in stability, dignity, and socio-economic development.
This resettlement program reflects the Government of Rwanda’s strong commitment to placing citizens at the center of development and ensuring that every Rwandan has access to safe, dignified, and sustainable housing.
